The appearance is a satirical comedy that mocks the small Quebec people and its excessive religiosity.

Maida Brown, a rich widow, is being visited by wealthy aircraft manufacturer Louis Letchworth at the Brown family estate in Bayport. The family maid notices the pair's affectionate behavior toward each other and, aghast, reports the incident to Maida's father, the head of the local Purity League. The local citizenry is so outraged by this scandalous behavior that they force Maida to leave town. Meanwhile, Harold Brown, her late husband's brother, is aware that the family estate will revert to him if Maida remarries, so he spies on her in order to prove that she and Louis are married, so Harold can get the family fortune for himself.

Hosted by storyteller Paul Douglas, this summer series started each episode with Douglas holding some artifact from England, which he would then use as the basis for a long, involved tale of adventure explaining how the object came to be in his possession. The show was brought back in repeats for its second summer season in 1957.

The show ran from 5 January 1980 till 31 May 1980 screening movies on Saturday afternoons at 12:30 pm. From 7 June 1980 till 30 August 1980 it switched to Saturday nights screening double feature movies at 10:30pm. From 3 January 1981 yo 5 September 1981 it reverted to Saturday afternoons at 12:30 pm, screening single feature movies. From 31 December 1981 to 29 December 1984 it change to Saturday afternoons at 12:30 pm. Sometimes the show was not seen for a week to several weeks due to the televised college football game or other sporting events.

When TV60-WPM gives Tom his chance, his struggle begins, leading to unexpected and unwanted compromises in all aspects of his life. Before long, Tom wonders if the show's slowly growing success is worth the pain it takes to get there...but he doesn't have to shoulder the burdens alone. "Thriller Theater!" is a gently comedic feel-good movie about the struggle to find a balance between "real life" and the pursuit of one's creative dreams.

Matinee Theater is an American anthology series that aired on NBC during the Golden Age of Television, from 1955 to 1958. The series, which ran daily in the afternoon, was frequently live. It was produced by Albert McCleery, Darrell Ross, George Cahan and Frank Price with executive producer George Lowther. McCleery had previously produced the live series Cameo Theatre which introduced to television the concept of theater-in-the-round, TV plays staged with minimal sets.Jim Buckley of the Pewter Plough Playhouse recalled:When Al McCleery got back to the States, he originated a most ambitious theatrical TV series for NBC called Matinee Theater: to televise five different stage plays per week live, airing around noon in order to promote color TV to the American housewife as she labored over her ironing. Al was the producer. He hired five directors and five art directors. Richard Bennett, one of our first early presidents of the Pewter Plough Corporation, was one of the directors and I was one of the art directors and, as soon as we were through televising one play, we had lunch and then met to plan next week’s show. That was over 50 years ago, and I’m trying to think; I believe the TV art director is his own set decorator —yes, of course! It had to be, since one of McCleery’s chief claims to favor with the producers was his elimination of the setting per se and simply decorating the scene with a minimum of props. It took a bit of ingenuity.
